LOUBOUTIN x ROUGE nail colour

For the first time ever Christian Louboutin is stepping into the beauty arena with a line of polishes. And where better to start than with the iconic blood red hue that made his shoes a staple in fashionistas wardrobes and ensembles around the globe. Most people don’t know that the inspiration for the red sole actually came from women’s nail polish. Louboutin had the idea to paint the bottom of his shoes red while mocking up his very first prototype beside his assistant (who just so happened to be painting her nails in the bright shade). That was over two-decades ago. In an interview with Holt Renfrew, Christian Louboutin was asked why he chose nail polish to enter the beauty industry he replied:

“There are two reasons: Colour has always been a very important part of my design process. I love when I create something and a woman makes it her own, when she wears a color in a way that I would have never imagined. And why nails? When a woman puts on a pair of my shoes, she looks at herself—her posture, the curve of her body and the line of her legs. Similarly, fingernails are the end point of the gracious gesture that starts with the shoulders and arms, and finally the fingertips.”

“The red sole was born from red nail polish. I am giving back to nails what the shoe took from the nails years ago.”

In 2007 Donna Karan launched The Urban Zen foundation, a non-profit organization inspired by her global travels. The Foundation includes The Urban Zen store and urban Zen fashion line, proceeds of which go towards the foundations sole purpose; raising awareness and inspire change in the areas of well-being, preserving cultures and empowering children. .This year Karan created a special capsule collection called “The Journey” for July and August instead of just filling her store with pre-Fall items. In a press statement Karan says:

“When a woman walks into a store, she wants to be inspired… She shops for things she can wear here, today; yet also knows she can wear it into the next season. She knows she can’t live at the beach. But she can take that spirit with her when she heads back to the city and into fall.”

The collection consists of 40 pieces, versatile T shirts, one-of-a-kind Indian sari dresses and tops (fabrics were hand-picked by Karan herself in India), a new 3 way signature wrap dress with linen borders that can transform into different looks, scarves, sculpted tunics and a soft leather jacket, to name a few. The use of neutral colors such as tan, bronze, sand, eggshell, indigo and black are hand-dyed by artisan dyers to achieve a sun-kissed look. The collection will be available in Urban Zen’s Sag Harbor location; select pieces will be available in New York City. Check out of few pieces below.

Accessory Trend ALERT!

Layer Necklace Pic

I love to spice up a simple wardrobe with a large, chunky accessory to add a little flare. What can I say; I’m a sucker for a statement piece! But let’s face it; there is a time and place for everything. Sometimes ensembles need a simple touch and if you live in the hot south in the summer, less is more. Learning to simplify and layer your bracelets and necklaces are both fun and chic. Give it a try, find several dainty necklaces in different lengths and see what cute creations you can come up with.

Gucci Celebrates the dubut of GUCCI COSMETICS

On June 4, 2014 Gucci celebrated the launch of its long-awaited make up line, Gucci Cosmetics, in New York City with a private cocktail party in honor of Charlotte Casiraghi. The event, hosted by Gucci Creative Director Frida Giannini, took place at The Carlyle hotel.

That evening, the new cosmetics line was unveiled. Set to officially launch in September 2014, the collection includes Gucci Eye, Gucci Face, Gucci Lip, Gucci Nail and preparation products for the skin.

“For me, beauty and fashion are always connected. One doesn’t exist without the other. Make up is a key element of the Gucci runway show – it helps communicate the essence of the Gucci woman. Eyes, skin, lips – they’re like accessories, all working together to create an unmistakable look,” said Frida Giannini.
