Selena Quintanilla was one of the biggest fashion icons of her time. Not only was she a singer, songwriter and dancer but she was also known for her unique designs both on and off the stage. Beauty Quick Tips

Beauty Quick Tips

Problem: Over plucked Eyebrows
Solution: Fill in with a M.A.C (spike) eyebrow pencil or Laura Mercier brow pencil (brush on the end). Choose a shade slightly lighter than your hair so that it looks natural until they grow back. Make sure it is not too dark, as this can look too fake. After filling in with the pencil, fill in the gaps with brow powder or brown eye shadow, which will soften the line and make it look more natural.

Problem: Blemishes and Breakouts
Solution: When a pimple appears, place an ice pack on it for 5 to 10 minutes to reduce swelling, then pat the area dry and apply benzoyl peroxide with a clean cotton swab. For blemishes and small spots, rely on sticky concealers, which come in compacts or tubes. For larger blotches or redness around the nose, use more watery liquid concealers (commonly sold in tubes), or try foundation. Remove any dry skin flakes with a wet washcloth. Next, dab a medicated acne treatment on the pimple; work it into the skin until it disappears. Another quick trick is to warm concealer on the back of your hand, next, with a brush, dot a tiny bit on the middle of the pimple. Using a clean finger, push (don’t rub) it into the skin until it disappears. The key is to build thin layers. Set with a large brush and translucent/setting powder.

Know your Arch

Know your Arch

I can’t tell you the number of times I bought a cute pair of shoes and had to tiptoe to my car at the end of the night. Beauty is most definitely pain, especially when you chose shoes that are unflattering to your foot type. There is not a female walking that can’t relate to having to nurse your heels and toes back to life the day after you’ve rubbed a blister all over them. A good way to avoid this and choose the appropriate shoe is to first determine what type of arch you have. You can determine whether you have a normal, flat or high arch by examining your wet footprint. This is easy to do, just simply wet your foot and step on a piece of paper. Your arch is normal if you see half of your wet footprint, if the middle part of your footprint doesn’t show up, you have a high arch, but if you can see most of your footprint then you have a fairly flat arch. Simply knowing this will not only save you money on hurtful shoes that you will most likely not wear again but it can also reduce the chances of you having long term effects such as heel spurs, corns and bunions.

Ready to Wear MUST READ!!!!!!

Ready to Wear MUST READ!!!!!!

If it’s one thing I have learned about being in the fashion industry and living in New York is that it’s very important to keep a few ready to wear ensembles and accessories hanging in your closet. You never know what to expect in the city that never sleeps. Last minute client meeting and social networking events are only a few occasions that will require you to be out the door at a moment’s notice. Ready to wear ensembles will almost always come in handy when you either have absolutely nothing to wear or when you’re in a rush to pull an outfit together. It’s better to have a few for different occasions; corporate, casual and one glamorous ensemble. Be sure to know your essentials and stock up on them. When shopping for your personal wardrobe, don’t forget the basics! These include white and black blouses, a little black dress, high heels, diamond studs, blue jeans, your favorite shade of lipstick and anything else that is a major staple in your wardrobe. Remember, these looks are timeless so investing in certain items that are more expensive but higher in quality may be wiser because they will last longer.

Fashion Flashback

Fashion Flashback

This day not only marked one of the most controversial moments in history , so juicy Olivia Pope herself wouldn’t be able to handle; but it was also the start one of the first high fashion trends of that era. December of 1936, King Edward VIII renounced the throne to marry Wallis Warfield, an American socialite. The bride wore a floor-length fluted column dress and fitted jacket with a delicately pleated heart-shaped bodice. Cut of blue silk crêpe, the gown matched the duchess’s Van Cleef & Arpels sapphires. Its conservative silhouette exemplified the stern manner of style favored by the American divorcée, and it lent a mild temperance to the scandalous union. Within weeks of their June 1937 vows, copies of the dress appeared all over department stores in New York.
